Why did we change our name to Linkonaut?

We’re still the same team – we just renamed ourselves from Jellyfish.marketing to Linkonaut.

Why the name change to Linkonaut?

The story of Jellyfish.marketing and Linkonaut

The beginnings of the jellyfish.marketing platform weren’t tied to any business plan or strategy♟️ Our long-term good relationships with suppliers caused the number of clients to grow through word of mouth to the point where Google Sheets were no longer enough. We needed automation because we often had over a hundred supplier and client windows open. The idea of automation came as a way to make our work with large numbers of documents easier. Our “brand” jellyfish.marketing was created in half an hour, and the landing page in another💪 We mainly wanted to navigate the sea of links more efficiently and connect buyers and suppliers effectively. That was in 2020. Without marketing or PR, people began to notice us—and even found competitors for us😄

So we began improving the platform, implementing all client and supplier feedback. More users joined, and we turned a simple automation idea into a real project, brand, and mission. First, we checked whether our name was legally fine (yes, unfortunately only later). It wasn’t.

One of the founders came up with the “jellyfish” idea back in 2020:

On the internet—within texts, articles, and portals—there are countless links pointing to other pages (backlinks). It’s like a sea of links and content. The more links attach to a specific website, the stronger that website becomes and the higher it ranks in search results.

Similarly, a jellyfish swims in the sea. In this analogy, its tentacles capture links leading to the center of its body. The body represents the client’s website. The more links the jellyfish catches, the stronger the client’s site (the jellyfish) becomes.

Later, in 2022, we discovered that an American agency was already using the name “Jellyfish”. And a smart lawyer told us that, logically, we’d never be able to register it as a trademark.

And that’s how Linkonaut was born 🙂

Who’s behind Linkonaut?

Miroslav Jacík has been connecting and building relationships between backlink suppliers and buyers since 2014. In 2016, he teamed up with Kaja Mihalovičová, who took care of clients and managed processes. At the same time, Stano Kubernát was opening 30–100 Excel documents daily, serving as the link between buyers and suppliers. Between 2018–2019, Stano came up with the idea of automation because computers were crashing from document overload. So Miro and Stano created jellyfish.marketing. Its rapid rise is described above 🙂
